One major mess-up is that if you pull the laptop out, the Aux input fails — surely the main purpose of this is as a tits-up backup source? Just what I was thinking. Can … Read more » Phil, please I want to ask a question and I would be sooo glad if you could answer me fully. The touchstrips let you move quickly through a track, like dropping a needle. This is perhaps the biggest attraction to these units. My guess is Rekordbox will be enhanced to eventually rival Traktor albeit far too late and another mixer along … Read more » So? If you look at the unit from the back you will notice the large space between it and the table it is standing on.
It is genuinely innovative in coming with an adapted apparently full-strength version of Traktor to suit its design. The channel faders have channel fader start buttons, which basically when activated allow you to autostart that channel by just opening its fader. I am not phased about whether it has 4 channels or not. Ok, thanks for info man! As i have so many tracks in my hdd. What will happen to the Pioneer edition when the new version of Traktor is released? Picked one of these up earlier this week - love it. Thanks for such a quick reply mate! Which software program is more seamless and can Serato record? This 4-deck functionality is a first among software bundled with Traktor controllers. The sound card in the controller causes audio drop out, some users have been putting S4 through a second sound card! Its got a very high quality sound card and the response from the jogs was fantastic.
What do the knobs and faders feel like are they just cheap plastic or what? Anyway I only run it in demo mode as i installed it on a work laptop and did not want to activate it. . I have some questions and they are: 1. Now to fit four channels on the same size unit something had to be compromised I guess. I like them — although the buttons are a bit stiff to activate. In fact have plagued many a sound card and midi setup since the dawning of vista and windows 7 operating systems.
I thinks I will stick with traktor pro and kontrol x1 for the time being until we see how the market pans out, dont want to be a guinee pig! All other differences relate specifically to matching features and functionality with the software you are driving. It comes with Traktor 1. It is also perfectly loose for cutting. I have heard it is possible but i assume no effects etc? One of the key points i noticed while mixing was the responsiveness of the controller to the software and vice versa. The lack of booth and emergency thru give that way, but also the size, because the fact is you need a whole tabletop to set this up on.
The most glaring and obvious difference between the two units is that the S1 has a two channel mixer and the T1 is a four channel mixer. But it does same functions! I have a numark mixtrack at the moment and the knobs on that definitely feel very cheap. This makes sense and works well, but it does involve you looking at the screen to check where you left the setting. Likewise the play and cue buttons and tempo slider are all full size. It firstly gives weight and adds legitimacy to the digital realm and secondly it creates competition which ultimately leads to more choice, more competitive pricing and more innovation…so we the consumer benefit.
Awesome review again Phil…thank you! It is a cut down version, for a start it had less effects and other annoying bits like not able to customize the screen display like hide the crossfader etc. It has the best Traktor jogs of all, and it feels enough like Pioneer equipment albeit entry level stuff to have an effortless club lineage. Just wanted to say that it does not come with a Pioneer version of traktor. The needle drop feature is great. Is this the controller for you? This is the only one of the three that works with video, by the way.
However a complete dj system cdp+mixer is extremelly expensive. It would seem that even Pioneer see where the industry is going and feel the need to follow, this is a nice piece of kit and of course being Pioneer is overpriced… However being an owner of the S4 on a Mac it does not represent a significant step forward in order to consider a change. Pioneer entering the market is a good sign what I want is single versions of the deck not too intersted in the mixer. But the four decks are pretty massive for some. As far as I could tell cranking it up in our office and listening on good headphones, it is crisp, clean and loud enough. Just to stop drop outs.
Thanks for the test report. I live in istanbul and it is much more expensive than other countries 1600 dollars To be honest i cannot trust in numarks products as much as pioneers. Conclusion The main comparison with this unit is going to be with the Traktor Kontrol S4. If you still want it and your reasons still make sense, go for it. In any case i will pay the money for those stuff and i want to pay it for the best. The S1 is surprisingly more costly than the T1. I bought one of these when I consigned my Technics to the loft due to space reasons.
